Up for sale is an exceptionally clean, vintage example of the ultimate American "camper's companion": the Savage Model 24 combination gun, chambered in the highly desirable .22 Long Rifle over .410 Bore (3-inch chamber).
Because this rifle does not have a serial number, it is definitively a Pre-1968 production model. Furthermore, the presence of the hammer-mounted barrel selector and the full-length brazed barrels allow us to accurately narrow its production window to between 1956 and 1967. Finding one of these early, brazed-barrel models in this condition is becoming increasingly difficult, making this a fantastic opportunity for both Savage collectors and traditional outdoorsmen.
Condition & Inspection Report: This Model 24 has been carefully inspected and cleaned by our in-house gunsmithing team. It remains in outstanding mechanical and cosmetic condition for a mid-century field gun.
The Receiver: The factory case-hardened finish is the star of this gun. Unlike most Model 24s that have faded to a dull gray from decades of field use, this receiver still boasts vibrant, highly visible case colors.
The Barrels: The full-length brazed barrels retain a rich, even bluing. They are remarkably clean and free of the heavy pitting typically associated with vintage utility guns.
Wood Furniture: The original walnut-stained hardwood stock and forend are structurally rock-solid. There is no visible splitting at the wrist or tang. The wood shows honest, smooth handling wear consistent with light use.
Action & Mechanics: The break-action lockup is tight, the hammer-mounted barrel selector pivots cleanly, and the single-trigger mechanics function exactly as designed.
