Up for sale is a phenomenal example of the gold standard in American gas-operated shotguns: a vintage Remington Model 1100 chambered in 20 Gauge.
Based on the "L" serial number prefix (L740221X), this shotgun dates to the late 1960s or early 1970s. However, the most important detail for collectors and shooters alike is the "X" suffix. This designates the shotgun as a "Standard" or "Heavy Frame" 20-gauge. Before Remington introduced the smaller LT-20 models, these early 20-gauge guns were built directly on the standard 12-gauge receiver blanks. Because it has the mass of a 12-gauge but fires a 20-gauge payload, the felt recoil on this shotgun is virtually nonexistent. It is arguably one of the softest-shooting autoloaders ever produced, making it an absolute dream for high-volume dove hunters, sporting clay shooters, or anyone sensitive to recoil.
Condition & Restoration Report: This 1100 has been professionally inspected and partially restored by our in-house gunsmithing team to create the ultimate, weather-resistant field gun.
Action & Receiver: The receiver, bolt, and internal mechanics are entirely original and in very good working condition. The gas system is clean, and the action cycles smoothly.
Barrel Finish (Upgraded): The original 28" barrel had developed patches of surface rust over the decades. To halt oxidation and save the steel, we professionally media-blasted the barrel down to bare metal and applied a premium Cerakote finish to closely match the factory receiver. It now boasts vastly superior rust and weather resistance for the field.
The Choke: It features a period-correct, dial-adjustable Poly Choke installed at the muzzle, allowing the shooter to instantly change constrictions from Cylinder to Full with a quick twist.
Wood Furniture: The original factory wood stock and forend are intact, showing honest handling marks and field wear commensurate with its age, but remaining structurally solid.
