A fantastic piece of Cold War transitional history, this Spanish FR8 (Fusil Reformado 8) perfectly bridges the gap between the classic bolt-action era and the dawn of modern battle rifles. Often referred to as the "Cetmeton," this rifle was born in the 1950s when the Spanish military needed to quickly arm troops while waiting for full production of the new CETME semi-automatic rifles.

By taking their exceptionally strong, large-ring Mauser 98 actions (from the M1943) and re-barreling them for the modern 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge, Spanish armorers created a rugged, compact, and hard-hitting carbine. Outfitted with CETME-style sights and muzzle devices, the FR8 was designed to perfectly mimic the handling of the incoming assault rifles for training purposes, resulting in one of the most unique and collectible surplus bolt-actions on the market.

Condition

This FR8 is in Very Good Surplus Condition and has been professionally cleaned and inspected.

  • Wood: The dark, straight-grained military stock is solid and structurally sound. It shows standard handling marks, dings, and compressions expected from a mid-century service rifle, but remains free of any major cracks or splits. The finger grooves remain well-defined.

  • Mechanics: The legendary Mauser 98 action cycles smoothly, the safety engages positively, and the rear sight dial rotates and clicks firmly into place.

An excellent, historically significant "sleeper" for surplus collectors and a remarkably handy bolt-action for the range. Drop by the shop to inspect the bore and handle it in person!
