Shepard Arms is proud to offer a highly collectible, investment-grade Winchester Model 1892 chambered in the classic .25-20 W.C.F. Manufactured in 1907 (Serial Number: 426282), this John Browning-designed lever action represents the golden era of American sporting rifles.

Configured with the highly desirable 24-inch octagon barrel, this rifle has survived over a century in remarkable condition. It is the perfect piece for the dedicated Winchester collector or the vintage firearms enthusiast looking for a mechanically pristine example of a legendary platform.

The "Unicorn" Bore

The absolute standout feature of this rifle is its bore. Because the .25-20 cartridge was heavily used during the transition from black powder to smokeless powder, and frequently paired with corrosive primers, the vast majority of surviving examples feature dark, heavily pitted, or completely "shot out" barrels.

This rifle is the rare exception. The bore is bright, clean, and features incredibly sharp, deep rifling all the way to the crown. It is an exceptional survivor that guarantees this rifle isn't just a wall-hanger, but a highly capable shooter.

Condition Assessment

This Model 1892 is in Very Good to Excellent Antique Condition.

  • Wood: The walnut furniture is fantastic. The wood-to-metal fit remains incredibly tight, particularly around the receiver tangs—an area where these rifles are notorious for cracking or splintering. The stock and forend are solid, and display only minor honest handling marks.

  • Metal & Finish: The original factory bluing has gracefully aged into a smooth, even gray/plum patina. The metal is exceptionally clean, showing absolutely no signs of active rust, deep pitting, or harsh chemical cleaning. The screw heads remain crisp, and the receiver lines are sharp.

  • Mechanics: The legendary dual-locking-block action is as smooth as the day it left New Haven. The loading gate retains strong spring tension, the hammer functions flawlessly, and the lockup is bank-vault tight.
